LOWELL, Mass. - Boston College improved to 5-0-0 (2-0-0 HE) on the season with a 4-3 victory over UMass Lowell, Saturday night at Tsongas Arena. The win drops the River Hawks' record to 3-3-0 (0-2-0 HE). The Eagles' 5-0 start is their best since 1983-84 when the team won their first seven.
The Eagles opened the scoring 11:27 into the first period on junior Ty Hennes' second goal in as many games. Following a shot by sophomore Dave Spina, Hennes stormed the crease to collect the rebound and pound the puck into the net. Freshman Chris Collins was also credited with an assist.
BC gained a two-goal advantage on a J.D. Forrest goal with only one second remaining in the first period. After collecting a pass from Collins, Forrest carried the puck into the UMass Lowell zone, cut to the middle, and unloaded a slap shot that cruised into the net through the legs of River Hawk goalie Chris Davidson.
UMass Lowell pulled to within one goal only 45 seconds into the second period, but the Eagles responded 1:54 later on sophomore Ryan Shannon's shorthanded goal. Freshman Peter Harrold and Forrest picked up the assists. The shorthanded tally was the Eagles' first of the season.
The Eagles increased the margin to three goals on sophomore John Adams' first collegiate goal, with sophomore Ryan Murphy and Shannon picking up the assists.
UMass Lowell scored two third-period goals to cut the BC lead to one, but the Eagles, with the help of senior goalie Tim Kelleher's 20 saves, held on for the victory.
Forrest's two-point night gives him a total of 10 points (three goals and seven assists) in seven career games against the River Hawks, which is a team high against UMass Lowell.
Boston College returns to action Friday, Nov. 1, when they travel to Notre Dame to face the Irish in the traditional Rivalry Weekend match-up. Game time is 7 p.m.
