CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Dave Spina scored two goals and added one assist as No. 7 Boston College (3-0-0) defeated Vermont (0-2-2) 8-6, Sunday afternoon at Kelley Rink.
With BC leading 3-2 after one period, the Eagles connected for five goals in the second period to take a 8-4 lead after two frames. The last time BC scored five goals in a single period was January 27, 2001, when Brian Gionta tallied five first period goals in a 7-2 victory over Maine.
Twelve Boston College players factored in the scoring with five players collecting multiple points. Junior Ben Eaves, freshman Patrick Eaves and sophomore Ryan Shannon each tallied one goal and two assists, while junior J.D. Forrest added two assists.
Sophomores Ned Havern and Ryan Shannon, along with juniors Brett Peterson and Ben Eaves, each tallied their first goal of the season.
The game featured 22 penalties for a total of 44 minutes.
Vermont used two goalies with senior goaltender Shawn Conschafter making 13 saves and freshman Travis Russell stopping 30 BC shots. Senior Tim Kelleher made 15 saves for the Eagles.
