CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After traveling all the way to Syracuse, N.Y., only to have its game Wednesday against the Orangemen postponed, the Boston College men's soccer team returns home for a noon match against Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 20.
In the Eagles' last game, Saturday, Oct. 12, they dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to Notre Dame at Newton Campus Soccer Field. Justin Detter found Luke Boughen down the right side, and Boughen found the back of the net at 93:36 to give the Fighting Irish the win.
Pittsburgh (7-5-1, 2-4-1 BIG EAST) suffered a similar fate in its last contest, a 2-1 loss to Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in which the Hokies' Bailey Alleman scored the game-winner at 93:08 of overtime. Bryan Hopper gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 32nd minute, but Virginia Tech's Lasse Mertins tied it up six minutes into the second half.
Mario Carrizales leads Pittsburgh with 12 points (six goals), while Hopper and Keeyan Young are tied for second with seven points, each having scored two goals and assisted on three others. The Panthers boast one of the BIG EAST's top goalkeepers in Justin Gaul, who leads the conference in saves (72) and ranks third in goals against average (0.82).
Boston College (7-3-0, 4-2-0 BE) leads the all-time series, 7-3-2. The Panthers beat the Eagles, 3-2, in overtime last year in the Iron City.
