
Hockey Bows To Terriers

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston University used one goal and one assist each from its top line of Brian McConnell, Bryan Miller and Mike Pandolfo as the seventh-ranked Terriers defeated No. 13 Boston College, 2-1, at Kelley Rink before 7,884 on Friday night.
McConnell put BU (13-5-2, 7-3-2 HOCKEY EAST) ahead, 1-0, 5:50 into the game. He took a long lead pass from Miller and Pandolfo, and scored on Eagle netminder Matti Kaltiainen.
After a scoreless second period, the Terriers took a 2-0 lead when Pandolfo converted from in front of the net at 5:09 of the third. McConnell and Miller assisted on the goal.
Boston College (12-9-2, 5-7-1 HOCKEY EAST) cut the lead the Terriers' lead to one goal when Ryan Shannon scored at 11:29 of the third. Jeff Giuliano and Dave Spina assisted on the goal.
The Terriers outshot the Eagles 32-30 for the game, including a 16-6 margin in the final stanza. BU goaltender Sean Fields made 29 saves in the win, while Kaltiainen made 30 saves in the loss.
Between the first and second periods, former Eagle greats John Cunniff '66 and Billy Daley '61 were honored when their jerseys were retired and hung from the Conte Forum rafters.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday, Jan. 20 at BU's Walter Brown Arena in a 3 p.m. game. Fox Sports New England will carry the game live.
