Tom O'Brien- Head Coach
Opening Statement
"We're very happy with the effort today. We didn't start off obviously
on a very good note, three minutes left to go in the first quarter and
we're down ten to nothing and hadn't really done much of anything. From
that point on I think that all phases of defense shut them out. We had
solid special teams play. Offensively, William Green is a very good
back and we found a couple of things at halftime that we went to, to get
him to the perimeter a little more and get the ball in his hands out
there. That turned it around in the third quarter for us."
On William Green
"I think he's the complete package. He's a big back. He's a strong
back. To me, this pre-season he's been quicker and faster than he's
ever been in the past. We just have to keep finding ways to get him the
ball and give him his opportunities. Whether we have to hand it to him,
pitch it to him on the option or throw it to him, he has to touch the
ball a good thirty times a game."
On the Defense
"I thought they had a fantastic effort today. When we had to make some
plays we were able to make them. We were able to get some turnovers and
help the offense, which we are supposed to do. They only had 76 yards
rushing, that is a pretty good effort today, because that offense is
predicated on running the football."
William Green- Running Back (204 yds rushing, 33 yds receiving, 3 TDs)
Overall
"I feel good. The offensive line did a heck of a job. They were out there playing with a chip on their shoulders. The preseason ranking had them ranked last in the BIG EAST. The offensive line is out there playing with a chip on their shoulder and they are playing really well. The offensive line did a heck of a job today"
On his Offseason Preparation
"I worked really hard this offseason. Every time I get out there I just
want to give it my all...This is really my first year starting. This is
all kind of really new for me."
On Preparing for West Virginia
"Coach Bible has done a real good job preparing us. We knew what to
expect and we knew we had to be tough. When the second half came around
we knew we had to wear them out. That is what happened, the offensive
line just wore them out."
On Winning the First BIG EAST Game of the Season
"Its very important. Last year we went to West Virginia and we lost.
This year we knew we had to get the momentum and start it right now.
Especially, since we are going all the way out to California (next week
at Stanford) we had to have a win and that is what we got."
Rich Rodriguez - Head Coach
Opening Statement
"We didn't execute, obviously, and it is disappointing because a lot of
those throws and catches and things of that nature, we have been making
in practice. It's just in the game we didn't pitch and catch like we
needed to be able to do. And when you are not able to do that and you
play a good football team, you are going to get beat."
"We have to play better than that in all three phases of the game. I'm disappointed that we did not play better because I thought that our kids worked hard and I thought we were prepared to do that, but obviously it did not show."
On William Green
"I didn't think we tackled well. Green is a big-time back and he's going
to be playing on Sundays. But we let him get several big plays and it
seems like we lost containment a couple of times."
Brad Lewis, Sr. QB
On his teams performance "Basically, our offense did not execute. We tried to put some points on the board to help out our defense. We drove the ball several times, we just couldn't finish off the drives. We had a good game plan. We knew where we wanted to attack. We just needed all eleven guys going one way. I really don't know what happened. We prepared all throughout camp, I didn't expect anything like this."
