Women's Track Competes At UConn Invitational

Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College women's track and field team competed at the UConn Invitational, today, in Storrs, Conn. The Eagles took second place behind host Connecticut.
Winning the 5,000-meter event in her first competition since cross country season was Sharon Van Tuyl with a time of 17:03. Following with a time of 17:22 was Julie Spalidoro. In the 1,500-meter Laura Smith finished in second, running a 4:34.87, missing first by one hundredth of a second. In the same event, Jen Donovan ran a 4:41, good for fourth place. Following in ninth was Meghan Andrade and Rebecca Simmons was 14th. Taking back-to-back performances were Jennifer Kramer (10:03) and Danielle Jelley (10:05), taking second and third places, in the 3,000-meter run. Meredith Millett took 15th in the same event.
In the 400-meter dash, Lauren Claudia took second place with a 57.75 finish. In fourth was Jenifer Vendetti with a 58.73 and Melissa Connell was seventh, with a 59.09. Taking fourth in the 100-meter dash, Nikki Pogue ran a 12.75. Following, Zoey O'Sullivan ran a 12.95 and took eighth. Finishing two-hundredths of a second apart in the 800-meter event were Donovan (2:18.63) and Smith (2:18.65), good for second and third, respectively. Also racing in the 800-meter race was Lisa McIsaac (11), Adrienne Dunn (15) and Meghan O'Donnell (17). Taking second place in the 200-meter dash, was Pogue with a 26.53 and O'Sullivan scored points for her seventh place finish. Also competing was Katina McCrory (tied 10) and Julie Heyde (16).
In the 100-meter high hurdles, Christina Regan and Kate Sullivan took back-to-back finishes, in sixth (16.10) and seventh (16.46) places, respectively. In the 400-meter hurdles Erin Maloney took sixth placed with a time of 1:08.
In field events, Megan Kearney competed in the hammer throw, taking eighth with a throw of 36.78 meters. In the javelin, Lindsay Hudnut threw a 32.26, good for fourth place. Regan finished seventh in the long jump, with a jump of 5.23 meters. Following in 14th and 17th receptively was Sullivan and McCrory. In the high jump, Regan took fifth and Julie Heyde finished seventh. In the discus, Kearney threw to a fifth place finish and in the shot put took 12th.
In relay action, the 4x100 took fourth place running a 51.27. The 4x400 relay won with a 4:01.
After the 19 event concluded, Connecticut won (198.50), Boston College was in second (130), 3. Vermont (110), 4. Wheaton (96.50), 5. Central Connecticut (63), 6. Providence (54), 7. Sacred Heart (32) and 8. Tufts (29).
Boston College will next compete against New Hampshire and Syracuse on Sat. Apr 14, in Hanover, N.H.
