Women's Rowing Takes Fourth At BIG EAST Rowing Challenge

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston College women's rowing team took fourth place at the inaugural BIG EAST Rowing Challenge held today on Lake Quinsigamond, in Worcester, Mass. The Eagles collected 75 points.
Rowing a 6:45.02, the first varsity eight crew took fifth place. Syracuse won the race. In stroke seat in the varsity crew was Mary Cooley followed by Kristin Henny, Alex Kazanovicz, Andrea Achimovic, Kristin Cary, Ellie Gregory, Amelia Stephens, Terri Cojohn in the bow seat and Natalie Alderete was the coxswain.
Taking sixth in the second varsity eight, the crew rowed a 703.81 and Syracuse won the race. Rowing in the stoke seat was Lucia Romeo followed by Julie Todhunter, Katie Miller, Martha Tierney, Lauren Lehane, Claire Dennison, Kelly Griffin and in the bow seat was Kim Dugan. The coxswain was Vicky Haley.
The varsity four finished in fourth place (7:47.41), with West Virginia winning the race. Rowing in the stroke seat was Ellen Gallagher followed by Tianna Morrison, Kate McDonough, Kimberly Donohue in the bow seat and Bridgette Stewart was the coxswain.
Finishing third in the first novice eight, the crew rowed a 7:01.14. Georgetown won the race. Rowing in the stroke seat was Anne Nelson followed by Katie Stainken, Katie Meehan, Megan Olmstead, Holly Rothe, Andrea Overall, Kim Rothrock, Lindsay Williamson in the bow seat and Beth McGrimley as the coxswain.
Also in third place was the second novice eight with a time of 7:15.89. Wining the race was Villanova. In the stroke seat was Jess Walker followed by Jetta Sandin, Melissa Irving, Carmen Poo, Brianne Moskovitz, Courtney Shea, Vanessa Rose, Jean Kim in the bow seat and Lauren Ippolito as the coxswain.
Winning the race with 107 was sixth nationally ranked Syracuse. Following was Notre Dame, Rutgers, BC, Georgetown, Miami, Villanova, Connecticut and West Virginia.
The Boston College women's rowing team will return to action on Saturday, May 5, when they compete at the New England Championship.
