Women's Rowing Wins The New England Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Boston College women's rowing team took first place for the team points trophy at the New England Championship held today on Lake Quinsigamond, in Worcester, Mass. The only team to competed five final events, the Eagles collected a total of 28 points on the day the most in the last five years.
Winning their opening heat, the first varsity eight rowed a 6:48.81. In the finals, the crew took second place overall, improving their time to 6:28.99. Williams won the race. Rowing in the first varsity crew was Mary Cooley in the stroke seat followed by Kristin Henny, Alex Kazanovicz, Andrea Achimovic, Kristin Cary, Ellie Gregory, Amelia Stephens and Terri Cojohn in the bow seat. The coxswain was Natalie Alderete.
Also winning their first heat of the day, the second varsity eight rowed a 6:58.75. In the finals, the crew improved their time to 6:54.47 take second place and Williams won the event. The Coxswain was Vicky Haley and in the stroke seat was Lucia Romeo followed by Julie Todhunter, Katie Miller, Martha Tierney, Cate Boron, Claire Dennison, Kelly Griffin and Lauren Lehane in the bow seat.
Rowing a 7:48.74, the varsity four crew took second place in the opening heat. In the finals, the Eagles took third place with a time of 7:34.12. Tufts won the race. The crew was rowed by Ellen Gallagher in the stroke seat, Tiana Morrison in the three seat, Kate McDonough in the two seat and Kim Donohue in the bow seat. Bridgette Stewart was the coxswain.
Winning the first novice eight event, Boston College rowed a 6:50.80. Improving their time for the day by more than a second, the crew took first place with a time of 6:49.29. Rowing in the stroke seat was Anne Nelson followed by Katie Staiken, Katie Meehan, Megan Olmstead, Holly Rothe, Andrea Overall, Kim Rothrock and Melissa Irving in the bow seat. Beth McGrimley was the coxswain.
Taking third in the opening heat, the second novice eight rowed a 7:22.11. Taking fifth in the final the crew rowed a 7:38.68. Winning the event was Colby. In the stroke seat was Jessica Walker followed by Jetta Sandin, Lindsay Williamson, Carmen Poo, Brianne Moskovitz, Courtney Shea, Vanessa Rose, Jean Kim in the bow seat and Lauren Ippolito as the coxswain.
The Boston College women's rowing team will return to action on Friday, May 1, when they travel Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the DAD Vail Championship. The three day event will take place on the Schuylkill River.
