
Softball Drops Extra-Inning Affair To Terriers

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston University's Kerry Herr's double down the left side brought in the winning run in the top of the ninth inning as the visiting Terriers defeated Boston College, 2-1, in extra innings on Thursday.
BC loaded the bases in the first and sixth innings, but could not bring home a run. The Eagles left runners on base in each inning - except the ninth - for a total of 15 on the day. BU stranded 12.
The Terriers staked a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Leslie Linnemeyer singled in Kristin Knesek. BC evened the score in the bottom of the seventh as Cara Blumfield reached on a dropped fly ball, then advanced as the outfielder lost the ball. The Eagles' shortstop advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home as Jennifer Asbury singled to up the middle. Tying the score with no outs, the next three Eagles were sat down to end the threat and send the game into extra innings.
BC's Kimberly Ryan started the game, striking out three in 2.0 innings with no runs allowed and no hits. Brooke Shull entered in the third for one strikeout, one hit and one run in 2.0 innings of work. Tekae Malandris pitched 5.0 innings, striking out five, while allowing one run on one hit.
BU's Tiffany Finateri pitched the first 6.0 innings with one run allowed on six hits. She struck out six. Robyn Horrick hurled the final three innings, surrendering two hits with three strikeouts.
With the loss, the Eagles moved to 22-18 overall. BU improves to 24-11 and extended its winning streak to 14 games.
The Eagles will next face Connecticut in a BIG EAST doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 at noon at Shea Field. BC faces Syracuse on Sunday in a twin bill, also starting at noon at home.
