Sophomore guard Troy Bell earned All-BIG EAST first team honors, according to an announcement made by the league office.
Bell is the first Eagle to earn all-league first team accolades since Danya Abrams gained the same recognition in 1996-97.
Bell finished the regular season ranked among the league's top 10 in six statistical categories (league games only). The sophomore ranked in the top 10 in the following categories: scoring (third, 20.8), field-goal percentage (seventh, .460), free-throw percentage (third, .864), steals (second, 2.69), three-point field goal percentage (sixth, .389) and assist-turnover ratio (ninth, 1.56).
Bell was the only sophomore to earn all-league first team accolades. He was joined by West Virginia senior Calvin Bowman, Notre Dame junior Troy Murphy, Syracuse junior Preston Shumpert, and Villanova junior Michael Bradley. Bell, Murphy and Bradley were unanimous selections.
The Eagles, which finished the regular season with a 23-4 record and a league-best 13-3 BIG EAST record, return to action on Thursday, March 8 at noon in the quarterfinal round of the 2001 AT&T BIG EAST Championship Tournament. BC will meet the winner of the Villanova-West Virginia first-round contest. The game will be televised by espn2.
