Softball Sweeps Fairfield 6-5 and 3-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Boston College softball team swept Fairfield, 6-5 and 3-0, this afternoon at the Stags Alumni Softball Complex.
In the first game, BC needed nine innings to earn the win. Tied at 0-0 after seven, the Eagles posted five runs in the top of the eighth inning. The home Stags didn't bend and rallied to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the inning. BC brought home the deciding run in the top of the ninth for the 6-5 win.
Tekae Malandris pitched 7.2 innings, striking out nine batters. Brooke Shull entered in the eighth and completed the game, earning the win. Jennifer Asbury went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Cara Blumfield and Summer Jarratt both brought home two runners apiece.
In the nightcap, Shull pitched a complete game shutout with the 3-0 win. She struck out seven batters, while allowing three hits. Blumfield went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Jennifer Perrotta batted in the other Eagle run.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead after one inning and then added their last two runs in the top of the fifth inning.
With the sweep, BC improved to 15-11 overall. Fairfield fell to 13-13-1. BC will open home BIG EAST play this weekend against Rutgers. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31 at noon at Shea Field. BC will face Villanova on Sunday, April 1 at noon in a home league doubleheader
