MEN'S TENNIS SPLITS SATURDAY MATCHES AT WEST POINT

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Boston College men's tennis team opened its spring campaign on Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Vermont and a 4-3 loss to Army.
The Eagles were led by a quartet of freshmen against the Catamounts-Justin Slattery, Brad Anderson, Paul Colahan, and Ross Pytko. All four won their singles matches along with senior captain Jason Cowett and junior Marc Lucero grabbing victories as well. This was the fourth 7-0 win of the season for the Eagles.
The team captured all three doubles matches to complete the sweep. The teams of Slattery/Cowett, Anderson/Colahan and senior Matt Stutz playing with junior Tim Brennan all won handily to secure the seventh point for the team win.
The Eagles dropped a tight match to the Cadets. The teams split the six singles matches with Slattery, Anderson, and Lucero all recording victories. Cowett, Colahan and Pytko fell to the Cadets.
Army swept the doubles matches for the overall victory. Slattery/Cowett lost by a score of 8-6, while the teams of Anderson/Colahan and Stutz/Brennan both dropped their matches in tiebreakers.
The Eagles currently have a dual match record of 5-2 and 1-0 in the BIG EAST. The men's tennis team will next see action at Dartmouth on Thursday, February 8, at 6:00 p.m.
