Softball Sweeps Centenary

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Boston College softball team completed a two-game sweep of Centenary College with its 9-0 win last night. Earlier in the day, BC defeated the team 11-0.
The Eagles posted three runs in the first and four in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead after two. Erin Mackey pitched five innings, allowing only three hits and striking out three. Kimberly Ryan entered in relief in the sixth and struck out three.
Summer Jarratt opened the game with a single down the right field line and then Jacqui Goodchild singled to the gap on the left. Cara Blumfield walked, setting up Lisa Fischer's doubled that brought in Jarratt and Goodchild. Alison Erbig drove in Blumfield on a fielders choice. Fischer was later thrown out at home.
In the second, Mackey started the inning with a single, followed by Jarratt and Goodchild. Blumfield came up and brought home Mackey and Jarratt with a single. Fischer had her second double of the game, scoring Goodchild. Erbig grounded out to third, but Fischer came home to score the Eagles' fourth run of the inning.
In the sixth, Goodchild doubled home Mackey after she took first on a walk and Jennifer Lombardi doubled. Goodchild scored the Eagles' last run as she came home after a wild pitch.
BC improved to 5-3 overall with the win and will play a doubleheader with Louisiana-Lafayette today.
