Softball Explodes In Fifth, Tops Centenary 11-0

LAFAYETTE, La. - Senior Summer Jarratt went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs as the Boston College softball team defeated Centenary 11-0 in the first game of the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. Brooke Shull moved to 2-0 on the season pitching all five innings, striking out six and allowing only one run. She also went 2-for-3 from the plate to help her cause.
BC posted three runs in the second when Jennifer Asbury, Jennifer Perrotta and Shull scored as Centenary committed two errors. BC added a fourth run in the third inning as the Eagles executed a double steal. Asbury stole second and then Alison Erbig stole home with two outs for the run.
The Eagles exploded in the fourth, scoring seven runs. Cara Blumfield homered in three in her at bat as BC sent eight batters to the plate before Centenary collected an out. The Eagles had five hits in the innings.
Centenary pitcher Catherine Olsen gave up seven earned runs on 11 hits in 3.0 innings. Sherilyn Bossier pitched the last two innings, striking out one while giving up one hit.
BC will face Louisiana-Lafayette later tonight and then play a double-header against the Lady Cajuns tomorrow.
BC is now 4-3 overall on the season.
