DURHAM, N. H. - New Hampshire senior goaltender Ty Conklin stopped all 30 Boston College shots he faced, pacing the Wildcats to a 2-0 shutout win over the Eagles in front of a soldout crowd of 6,501 at UNH's Whittemore Center.
New Hampshire (19-9-6, 10-7-5) scored its first goal at 16:07 of the first period, as junior forward David Busch scored to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. BC outshot UNH 13-5 in the period.
After a scoreless second period, UNH got a power-play goal from freshman forward Nathan Martz at 4:54 of the third period. The score ended a run of 25 consecutive penalty kills by the Eagles, their longest streak of the season. Boston College did not score in its five power play opportunities.
Senior goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 20 saves for BC. The Eagles outshot UNH 30-22 in the game.
The game marked the 100th contest in the series between the Eagles and Wildcats. UNH took a slim 48-47-5 advantage in the series with the win.
The second-ranked Eagles (23-8-1, 14-5-1) return to the ice next Friday, February 23, in the first game of a home-and-home series against UMass Amherst. Boston College defeated the Minutemen, 9-5, on Oct. 29. Game time at BC's Kelley Rink is 7 p.m.
