Hockey Earns Come-From-Behind Tie With Maine

ORONO, Maine - Tony Voce's second goal of the game with 2:48 remaining in regulation tied the score at 3-3 to earn a HOCKEY EAST tie with Maine on Saturday night. The game was the second of a two-game set.
Maine's (8-5-3, 4-2-1 HEA) Robert Liscek put the Black Bears on the board first at 11:38 of the first period when he broke into the zone on a two-on-one with Todd Jackson. He pocketed a pass through the crease past Eagle goaltender Tim Kelleher for the 1-0 lead.
Boston College (8-6-2, 4-4-1 HEA) answered with two shorthanded tallies 14 seconds apart in the second period. Ryan Shannon scored as a penalty on the Black Bears expired at 3:43 to tie the score at 1-1. He scored on a feed from Ryan Murphy and Brett Peterson.
Seconds later, Voce broke in alone down the wing and scored with a man down from Ben Eaves and J.D. Forrest at 3:57 for the 2-1 lead. Immediately after the goal was scored, Voce was hit from behind into the boards, left the ice with assistance and returned in the period. The Eagles received a five-minute power-play as a result of the hit.
Maine's Colin Shields evened the score at 12:29 of the second on a power-play goal from Peter Metcalf. The Black Bears regained the lead at 16:11 when Michael Schutte converted another Maine power-play. Shields and Marty Kariya assisted on the goal.
In total, the game saw 61 minutes in penalties between the two teams. The second period featured 41 minutes of penalties: 18 minutes on nine penalties for Boston College and 23 minutes on 10 penalties for Maine.
Boston College held a 38-26 shot advantage in the game, including a 4-1 edge in overtime.
Tim Kelleher made 23 saves for Boston College. In the third period he stopped all 12 shots Maine threw on net, including several quality scoring chances in front of the net. Maine's Matt Yeats made 35 saves, including 11 in the first period and 15 in the second.
Boston College will return to action in three weeks at the Silverado Shootout, hosted by Minnesota-Duluth. BC will face Miami (Ohio) in the first round on Friday, Dec. 28 and then will face either host UMD or Yale in the second round on Saturday, Dec. 29.
