Hockey Wins In First Round Of Silverado Shootout

DULUTH, Minn. - Freshman Ned Havern scored three goals in his first collegiate game as a center and both Tony Voce and A.J. Walker each scored one goal and one assist as Boston College defeated Miami (Ohio), 5-1, in the first round of the Silverado Shootout. Senior Ales Dolinar had three assists in the game. With the win, Boston College improved to 9-6-2, while Miami fell to 7-9-1.
Walker - playing for the first time in his home state as a collegian - got BC right on the board just 41 seconds into the game when he banged in a Dolinar rebound on the left doorstep. Voce also assisted on the goal setting up the play from the left corner.
The Eagles exploded for three goals in the second period, including two 27 seconds apart. Havern scored the first of his three goals at the 2:20 mark. J.D. Forrest intercepted the puck at the blue line and found Dolinar streaking in down the middle of the RedHawk zone. Dolinar fed Havern on the left as his shot trickled in between Miami goaltender David Burleigh's legs for the goal.
Havern's second goal came at the 11:12 mark as freshman Ryan Murphy picked up a loose puck on the right boards. He found Havern alone on the right side for the one-timer.
Voce netted BC's fourth goal seconds later when he collected a Walker rebound for his seventh goal in the last five games. Dolinar also assisted on the goal.
Havern struck again at 5:36 of the third period to complete his first career hat trick. He broke in on a two-on-one with Ben McManama for the goal.
Miami snapped Tim Kelleher's shutout bid at the 15:28 mark with a power-play goal from Jason Deskins. Danny Stewart and Mike Kompon assisted on the goal.
Kelleher made a season-high 31 saves for the win. Two Miami netminders combined for 26 saves in the loss.
The Eagles will meet Minnesota-Duluth in the title game at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 29 at the Duluth Entertainment and Convocation Center (DECC).
