Bradley, St. Pierre Win Scanlan Award

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Quarterback Brian St. Pierre and linebacker Scott Bradley were named the co-winners of the Thomas F. Scanlan Memorial Trophy on Sunday afternoon as the Boston College football team held its annual banquet at the Sheraton Needham.
The Scanlan Trophy is annually awarded by the Boston College Varsity Club to the senior player who is most outstanding in scholarship, leadership and athletic ability. This year marks just the sixth time that the award has been shared since it was instituted in 1947.
Bradley was a senior tri-captain for the Eagles and started all 11 games this season. He was tied for second on the team in tackles this season with 85 stops, including 45 solo. He also had six tackles for a loss and three quarterback sacks. Bradley had a career-high 13 tackles in the BC win over Notre Dame (Oct. 27) and also registered 11 tackles vs. Miami (Nov. 10). Bradley had two interceptions on the season, including a 27-yarder for Army (Sept. 29) that was returned for a touchdown. He was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his performance againt the Cadets that also included six tackles.
St. Pierre had 25 passing touchdowns this season, which were tied as the second-highest in school history. His 149 completions were tied as the 13th-highest and his 279 attempts are the 12th-highest. In BIG EAST statistics, he was third in passing average per game at 183.3 yards, second in total offense at 203.0 yards per game and fourth in passing efficiency at 136.5 point. St. Pierre's four passing touchdowns at Navy (Sept. 22) were tied for third in in BC single-game record book. He threw for three touchdowns in three other games and two touchdowns in five and had at least one TD pass in all 11 games.
Other award given out at the banquet, included:
* The Gridiron Club Award, given to the player who demonstrates the determination, enthusiasm an spirt expected from a BC football player: defensive lineman Sean Guthrie.
The Unsung Hero Award, for unheralded achievement and outstanding performance recognized by teammates and coaches: linebacker Scott Bradley.
The Coaches' Award, for the player who exemplifies the coaching staff's attitude toward the game: offensive guard Marc Colombo.
Paul Cavanagh Award, for the players who collective on and off the field acommplishment speak volumes about his commitment to balanance and a level-headed outlook on life: offensive tackle John Richardson.
Jay McGillis Scholarship Award, for the defensive back that best exemplifies the qualities of team dedication and leadership by example and named in honor of the former BC defensive back: cornerback Lenny Walls.
Special Teams Award, for outstading play on special teams: punter Kevin McMyler.
Scout Team Award: running back Horace Dodd and offensive lineman Mathias Kiwanuku.
William J. Flynn Award, to the season's most valuable player: running back William Green.
