CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College junior running back William Green (Atlantic City, N.J.) has been named to the 2001 NCAA Consensus All-America football team. Green becomes the first BC consensus All-American since Mike Cloud in 1998 and the ninth ovreall in school history.
Green was a first team All-America pick by the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp Foundation, The Football News and The Sporting News. He was a second team pick by the Associated Press and honorable mention from CNNSI.com.
The players on the team had the majority of votes competing against players at their position only. Four first-team votes were considered the minimum number required of the seven teams, except in case of ties at those positions. The ties were at offensive line, where four players tied with three votes each and at the placekicking position, where two players tied with three votes each, all were listed. Seven players were unanimous choices by all seven teams used in the consensus chart--Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, American Football Coaches Association, CNNSI.com, Walter Camp Foundation, The Football News and The Sporting News.
