BC To Hold 10th Annual Baseball Night in Boston

The annual Baseball Night event will benefit both the BIG EAST Athletes Care program, a social service project that utilizes college student-athletes to provide educational and recreational opportunities to children in the city of Boston, and the Boston College baseball program.
Evans played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball, 19 as a member of the Boston Red Sox (1972-1990) and one with the Baltimore Orioles (1991). Nicknamed "Dewey", Evans was a three-time All-Star selection. He appeared in the 1978, 1981 and 1987 games, hitting .600 in his plate appearances. He played in 14 career World Series games, recording three home runs, two doubles, one triple and 14 RBIs.
With the Red Sox, Evans was a four-time winner of the Thomas A. Yawkey Award as the team's MVP (1981, 1982, 1984, 1987). He is one of five Sox players to win the award four times. Known as an outstanding outfielder with a tremendous arm, Evans was an eight-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner. He is the Red Sox all-time leader with 4,255 putouts.
Evans also made his mark at the plate. He ranks among the Red Sox all-time leaders in many offensive categories, including home runs (fourth, 379), RBI (fourth, 1,346), at bats (second, 8,726), runs (third, 1,425), hits (fourth, 2,373), doubles (third, 474), triples (eighth, 72), total bases (fourth, 4,128), extra-base hits (third, 925), and walks (third, 1,337).
Evans rejoined the Red Sox organization this past summer, taking on the role of Player Development Consultant. In this position, he will work the Red Sox top minor league prospects and also roam throughout the minor league system to work with all young players on hitting and playing the outfield.
