Sailing Gets Good Finishes on a Tough Weekend

BOSTON - The Boston College sailing team took first place at the Boston University Women's/Coed Invitational this Saturday. The senior duo of Cryssa Byers and Jen Doyle took first place, winning five out of six races and placing second in the other. Also, juniors Amanda Allen and Melissa Farrell provided a strong showing to assure a team victory. The Eagles topped Bowdoin and Tufts in gusty winds of 10-20 knots on the Charles River.
The Eagles grabbed a second place finish in the Danmark Trophy amidst stiff competition from 17 other squads. The two-day event held at the United States Coast Guard Academy was run in 15-20 knot winds from the Northeast on Saturday and in slightly lighter conditions on Sunday. Seniors Tyler Pruett and Sarah Helming, juniors Mark Teborek, Justin Dieckerhoff, Kate Wisotzkey, and Henrik Wennerstrom, and freshmen Julie Wilson and Jen MacDougall all competed in the Danmark Trophy.
The Eagles took third place at the Loder Trophy hosted by New Hampshire. Boston College ran 14 races in two divisions over two days in inconsistent wind conditions. Junior Bradley Yetman and freshman Adriane Hinman raced together in the A division while junior Neil McLaughlin and freshman Serene Saliba sailed to a second place finish in the B division.
The Boston College women wrapped up their weekend with the President's Trophy at Boston University. The race had Northeasterly winds with varying strength. The Eagles grabbed a fifth place finish on the performances of junior Carrie Howe and freshman Jen Doyle and junior Amanda Allen and freshman Gretchen Gilman.
