CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Three players -- seniors Xavier Singletary and Kenny Harley, and sophomore Troy Bell -- each scored 16 points to lead 20th-ranked Boston College to an 83-61 BIG EAST win over Virginia Tech before a crowd of 5,156 fans in Conte Forum.
Bell also recorded seven assists for the Eagles. He did not commit a turnover in his 34 minutes of action.
Boston College (15-2, 6-1 BIG EAST) fell behind early, trailing 13-6 with 13:55 remaining in the first half, before using a 21-0 run over the next 9:45 to take a 27-13 advantage. Virginia Tech freshman Danny Gathings broke the Hokies' scoring drought with a field goal with 4:10 to play in the opening half.
BC led 35-22 at the break, and extended its margin to 20 points -- 44-24 -- with a 9-2 rally to open the second half. Virginia Tech trimmed its deficit to 15 points at 46-31, before the host Eagles regained the momentum and increased the lead to as many as 32 points -- 72-40 -- on a three-point field goal by junior Brian Ross with 5:15 remaining.
Ross finished the game with a season-high 12 points. Senior Jonathan Beerbohm grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Virginia Tech (8-11, 2-6) was led by junior Mibindo Dongo and sophomore Brian Chase. Both players finished with 14 points. Dongo also grabbed six rebounds.
Game Notes: Boston College forced 30 turnovers, while committing just nine turnovers of its own. The Eagles have committed fewer than 10 turnovers in each of their last three games ... Troy Bell registered his second consecutive game without a turnover. Bell last made a turnover with 2:17 remaining in the first half of the Eagles' home win over Rutgers on Saturday, Jan. 20 ... Bell also made five steals ... BC made 15 steals, one shy of its season best (16 vs. Youngstown State) ... Bell did not make a three-point field goal against the Hokies. He had made at least one trey in each of the team's first 16 games this season ... Xavier Singletary made four three-point field goals, equaling his season high. He also converted four three-point field goals against Holy Cross, Massachusetts and Connecticut ... BC's 83-point total was the ninth time this season the team had scored more than 80 points.
