CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore guard Troy Bell scored 22 points to lead five Boston College players in double figures as the 20th-ranked Eagles earned an 89-74 BIG EAST victory over Villanova before a sellout crowd of 8,606 in Conte Forum.
The victory, the Eagles' second over Villanova in eight days, gives Boston College its first sweep of a season series against the Wildcats since 1992-93.
Joining Bell in double figures were senior Kenny Harley (13 points), junior Kenny Walls (16 points), sophomore Uka Agbai (11 points) and freshman Ryan Sidney (12 points). Agbai equaled his season high with seven rebounds.
Boston College led 21-17 with 12:20 to play in the first half, before using an 11-0 run to take a 32-17 advantage. Villanova broke the BC rally with a Ricky Wright free throw with 7:58 remaining before intermission. The Wildcats went 5:00 without a field goal until Aaron Matthews' layup with 7:20 to play.
BC took its biggest lead of the first half -- at 41-24 -- on Jonathan Beerbohm's layup with 5:31 to play. The Eagles settled for a 49-33 halftime margin. BC shot 61.3 percent from the field in the opening half.
Harley scored the first points of the second half on a three-point field goal with 18:55 remaining to give BC its biggest lead of the day at 52-33. Villanova never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Junior center Michael Bradley led Villanova with game highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds.
Game Notes: Troy Bell's streak without a turnover ended at 14:33 of the first half. The sophomore had not committed a turnover in 100:27 ... BC has now scored more than 70 points in each of its 18 games, including 80 or more points in 10 games ... BC has topped the 80-point mark in each of its last three BIG EAST contests. The 1983-84 team was the last team to accomplish this feat ... Today's game marked the fifth time this season BC has had five players score in double figures ... Bell recorded his 22nd collegiate game with 20 or more points ... BC committed 12 turnovers, breaking a string of three consecutive games with fewer than 10 turnovers.
