CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore guard Troy Bell earned BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week honors and freshman guard Ryan Sidney captured BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 28, according to an announcement made by the league office.
Both players were honored for their efforts in Boston College's 90-80 win at Villanova on Jan. 27. Bell registered 28 points, seven assists, four steals and three rebounds in the victory. Sidney contributed a career-high 17 points, a team-high seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Bell is the Eagles' leading scorer through 16 games, averaging 21.4 points per game. He ranks among BIG EAST leaders (in league games) in eight categories -- scoring (third), field-goal percentage (10th, .451), assists (seventh, 5.50), free-throw percentage (third, .891), steals (14th, 1.83), three-point field-goal percentage (fourth, .459), three-point field goals made (sixth, 2.83) and assist-turnover ratio (seventh, 2.06). He also ranks among league leaders in the same eight categories when all games are considered.
Bell played all 40 minutes at Villanova, marking the first time in his 43-game collegiate career that he'd played the entire game. He did not commit a turnover against the Wildcats. With that effort following his career-high eight-assist, one-turnover outing in the previous game (against Rutgers), Bell has now recorded 15 assists and just one turnover in the Eagles' last two contests.
Sidney's 17-point effort at Villanova marked his sixth double-figure scoring effort of the season, including his fifth in the team's last seven games. He's averaging 9.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season. He has registered six or more rebounds in each of the last three games. Sidney leads all BIG EAST players with a .667 field-goal percentage (32-for-48) in league contests.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 31 when they host Virginia Tech in a BIG EAST contest in the Silvio O. Conte Forum. Game time is 7:30 p.m
