New England Collegiate Fencing Championships Held at Chestnut Hill

BC's Men's Fencing team tied with MIT for their fifth first place finish in six years at the New England Collegiate Championships as they posted 60 overall victories. The epee squad contributed 22 wins to the victory, while sabre added 21 and foil added 17. Eight of the nine starters qualified for the individual finals as Zakee Howard won the epee event and Jeff Marston took second. Luke Mountain placed second in sabre and Junior Greg Shea took third in foil.
Other noteworthy performances were Bobbie Kim's seventh place finish in epee, Brian Von Kraus' and Kevin McCarthy's eighth and ninth place finishes in foil, and Steve Sztuk's seventh place finish in the sabre competition.
That was not all that the Eagles accomplished for the day. In the "Second-String Championships," BC won two gold medals and two silver. Peter Bratney took the gold in the foil competition while Rick Klein did the same in epee. One of the silver medal belongs to Freshman David Moyston, who has consistently performed well for the Eagles. Moyston placed second in the epee competition. Junior Thomas Lee won the other silver medal, finishing second in the sabre competition.
The entire men's team will be traveling to Yale University to compete in the Intercollegiate Fencing Association Championships. The IFA tournament will be held on March 4th and 5th.
