Providence, R.I. - Boston College scored four runs in the first inning and held on for a 4-1 victory over Providence in the second game of a doubleheader that had been rained out on Tuesday.
The game was originally to be completed from the fourth inning on with the Friars holding a 4-0 lead, but the game was started over following a protest by BC coach Jennifer Finley.
Cara Blumfield led off the game with an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Anne Marie Ambros. Jennifer Asbury then singled, and Blumfield would come around to score when Chris Vicari reached on a fielder's choice. Lauren Fischetti then singled to load the bases before a Summer Jarratt sacrifice fly made it 2-0. Lisa Fischer then added an RBI single, and Fischetti would later score on a two-out error.
Kimberly Ryan and Fischetti split the pitching duties, with each surrendering just two hits. Ryan pitched the first three innings for her 12th win.
The Eagles (18-17, 7-3 BIG EAST) will now have a week off before finishing the regular season with seven consecutive home games. The next contest will be on Thursday, April 27, a single game against Boston University.
