Providence, R.I. - Boston College jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead, keyed by a Summer Jarratt grand slam, and freshman Kimberly Ryan pitched her first career no-hitter as the Eagles topped Providence, 10-0, in the first game of a doubleheader.
The nightcap was suspended due to rain with the Friars leading, 4-0, in the fourth inning. The game will resume on Thursday at 11 a.m.
In the first game, the Eagles got on the board with an RBI single by Lauren Fischetti. Jarratt then followed with her first home run of the season to open the game up.
Boston College added four more runs in the third, as Chris Vicari and Fischetti hit back-to-back solo homers and Julie Ulbrich added a two-run shot. Jarratt knocked Allison Erbig home with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to round out the scoring.
Ryan (11-7) went the distance on the mound, striking out nine and walking just one. She started the second game, but was relieved by Brooke Shull after 2 2/3 innings. Shull will be on the mound for the Eagles when the game resumes Thursday morning.
Boston College (17-15, 6-3 BIG EAST) will be playing a doubleheader at Yale on Wednesday afternoon.
