Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Senior forward Jeff Farkas registered a hat trick in his final regular-season home game as Boston College wrapped up third place in the HOCKEY EAST standings with a 6-2 victory over Boston University before a crowd of 7,691 at Kelley Rink.
Farkas opened the scoring at 15:57 of the first period with his 24th goal of the season. Freshman forward Krys Kolanos gave the Eagles a 2-0 first-period lead with his 14th goal, coming at 17:31. Farkas netted the game-winner with a power-play goal at 12:29 of the second period, and junior forward Marty Hughes tallied his fourth goal at 16:17, also on the power play, to give Boston College a 4-0 lead at the second intermission.
Junior forward Brian Gionta made it a five-goal lead with his 27th goal of the season at 8:01 of the third period, and Farkas sandwiched his final goal between a pair of Boston University scores, completing his fifth career hat trick at 11:25.
Seniors Kevin Caulfield and Blake Bellefeuille, also playing in their final regular-season home game, each had two assists for the Eagles, as did junior forward Mike Lephart. Junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 24 saves for Boston College to earn his 13th win.
The Eagles (23-10-1 overall, 15-8-1 HOCKEY EAST) will begin defense of their league tournament crown when they host sixth-seeded Northeastern in a best-of-three series beginning Friday, March 10 at Kelley Rink.
