
Hockey Tops Northeastern, 8-4

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Senior forward Jeff Farkas registered two goals and two assists to lead third-seeded Boston College to an 8-4 victory over Northeastern in the first game of their best-of-three HOCKEY EAST quarterfinal series before a crowd of 2,766 at Kelley Rink.
Farkas put the Eagles (24-10-1) on the board first at 12:17 of the first period with a power-play goal, his 27th of the season. Northeastern responded with a Matt Keating tally just 22 seconds later. Farkas then scored again at 13:40, but NU's Brian Cummings helped the Huskies draw even again at 16:18.
BC junior forward Brian Gionta would put the Eagles on top for good at 6:40 of the second period, and an Ales Dolinar goal at 7:48 gave Boston College a 4-2 lead. Northeastern would get within one just before the second intermission, but could not pull even.
Junior Mark McLennan tallied the game-winner for the Eagles at 2:47 of the third period, and junior Mike Lephart made it a 6-3 game just 32 seconds later with his 12th goal. Freshman Krys Kolanos tallied his 15th goal and Gionta added his 29th to round out the Boston College scoring.
Kolanos and sophomore defenseman Brooks Orpik each had three assists for the Eagles. Kolanos has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in just five games against the Huskies this season.
Junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 24 saves for the Eagles, while Mike Gilhooly stopped 26 shots for Northeastern (12-18-5). The two clubs will play the second game of the series at Kelley Rink on Saturday at 7 p.m.
