Fairfield, Conn. - Chris Vicari homered in the top of the ninth to give Boston College a 3-2 victory and a split of its doubleheader with Fairfield.
The Eagles (4-9) lost the first game of the twinbill, 2-1, in eight innings despite a strong outing from Lauren Fischetti, who scattered eight hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out six. Fischetti also plated BC's only run of the first game with a solo home run, one of just two Eagle hits off Melissa Santos.
In the nightcap, Boston College again went into extra innings, with the teams trading runs in the eighth before Vicari's homer won it for the visitors. Allison Erbig had a pinch-hit RBI single in the fifth, and Gretchen Thompson scored an unearned run in the eighth when the Stags misplayed a bunt by Jaclyn Woitkowski.
Freshman Kimberly Ryan picked up her first collegiate win, allowing seven hits and walking one in nine innings while fanning 12 Fairfield batters.
Boston College will make its home debut on Saturday, April 1 when it hosts Syracuse in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
