Boston, Mass. - Freshman forward Krys Kolanos registered his second hat trick against Northeastern in less than four weeks as Boston College topped the Huskies, 7-2, before a crowd of 2,475 at Matthews Arena.
The Eagles (22-10-1 overall, 14-8-1 HOCKEY EAST) scored three goals in each of the first two periods, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Senior forward Jeff Farkas opened the scoring at 6:28 of the first period with his 23rd goal of the season. Junior defenseman Bobby Allen added his third goal of the year at 13:54 and Kolanos lit the lamp at 18:18 to make it 3-0 at the first intermission.
Northeastern, who was outshot by a 22-1 margin in the first period, got on the board just 31 seconds into the second period, but Kolanos answered with his second goal at 1:57 to make it 4-1. Freshman defenseman Bill Cass scored his first collegiate goal at 13:45, and senior defenseman Mike Mottau added his fourth goal of the season at 17:46.
After the Huskies made it a 6-2 game at 15:04 of the final period, Kolanos, who also had three goals against Northeastern on Feb. 7 in the first round of the Beanpot, finished off his hat trick with a goal at 16:14.
Kolanos led a group of seven Eagles who had multiple-point games, including Cass, who had his first career three-point game (one goal, two assists). Mottau and Allen each had one goal and one assist, while Brian Gionta, Mike Lephart, and Brooks Orpik each added two assists.
Junior Scott Clemmensen earned the win in goal, giving up one goal and making 18 saves in two periods of work. Freshman Tim Kelleher played the first 17:15 of the third period before giving way to classmate Tom Egan, who made one save in his collegiate debut.
The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, March 5 when they host Boston University in their final regular-season game. The game, which will be broadcast on FOX Sports New England, will begin at 7 p.m.
