Amherst, Mass. - Junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen posted a shutout for the fourth time in his last five starts as Boston College beat UMass-Amherst, 2-0, before a crowd of 3,864 at the Mullins Center.
The Eagles (21-9-1) got all the offense they would need at 7:40 of the first period when junior forward Brian Gionta put home the rebound of a Bobby Allen shot for his 26th goal of the season. Sophomore forward Jeff Giuliano added his ninth goal of the year at 2:01 of the second period to close out the scoring.
Clemmensen (23 saves) took care of business the rest of the way, posting his fifth shutout of the year and the 10th of his career - both school records. During the month of February, Clemmensen has posted a 3-1-0 record with a 0.75 goals against average and a .971 save percentage.
The Boston College defensemen also did their job, blocking 15 of UMass-Amherst's 48 shot attempts.
Boston College will return home to Kelley Rink on Saturday, Feb. 26, for another matchup with the Minutemen. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
