Hockey Falls To UMass-Amherst, 5-1

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College fell behind early and was unable to regroup, dropping a 5-1 decision to UMass-Amherst before a crowd of 6,649 at Kelley Rink. The loss dropped the Eagles to 21-10-1 overall, 13-8-1 in HOCKEY EAST.
The Eagles, who had killed 49 straight penalties and had not given up a power-play goal since Jan. 28 at Maine, took an early penalty and allowed the Minutemen to get on the board with a man-advantage goal just 1:28 into the game.
The visitors added another goal before the end of the first period and scored two more in the second period. Boston College pulled starter Tim Kelleher out of the goal at the 4:13 mark with the Minutemen holding a 3-0 lead.
Down by four, the Eagles got on the board with a goal by senior forward Blake Bellefeuille at 9:52 of the third period, but UMass-Amherst came back just 61 seconds later to make it 5-1.
Jeff Turner had one goal and two assists for the Minutemen, while brother Tim Turner added three assists. UMass-Amherst goalie Markus Helanen stopped 35 shots.
The Eagles will return to action on Thursday, March 2 when they travel to Matthews Arena to face Northeastern at 7 p.m.
