CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College senior Steve Langone (Reading, Mass.) and junior Jarett Mendoza (North Dighton, Mass.) were named BIG EAST Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively for their play through Feb. 20.
The Eagles are now 2-2 and will not compete again until March 3 when they meet the Red Sox for an exhibition game in Fort Myers, Fla.
Steve Langone, voted to the preseason All-BIG EAST team, threw a complete-game shutout against College of Charleston Sunday Feb. 13. Mendoza hit two home runs and a double with four RBIs in BC's 13-6 victory over C of C as part of a 4-for-5 performance at the plate. In the nightcap, Mendoza tied the game at 2-2 with his third home run of the day. In the eighth, he drove in Langone but the Eagles could not muster another run as the Cougars held on for the 4-3 win. Mendoza is currently batting .500 with a team-leading three home runs. He also has two doubles and five runs scored.
