Boston College Football Inks 15 Players

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Fifteen high school seniors signed national letters-of-intent to play football for Boston College on Wednesday, the first day of signing across the nation.
"We received 15 letters back today from young men who are going to comprise our freshman class next year," coach Tom O'Brien said. "We're very excited about all of them. They have the opportunity to come to Boston College and help us achieve our goals of winning the conference championship and going on from there.
"We're still recruiting some individuals. We had 19 spots open, we filled 15 of them, and we still may have the opportunity to sign 19 kids. We're still pursuing some kids who are out there."
O'Brien said the coaching staff placed special emphasis on recruiting for the defensive line.
"The biggest concern we had was, with the change in defensive coordinators a year ago (to Frank Spaziani), we switched from a 3-4 to a 4-3, and we were very short on defensive lineman up front. So that was a point of emphasis for us this year, as was recruiting offensive linemen last year. We concentrated on getting people into this program who can play defensive line. I think we signed people at that position who can come in and have an opportunity to help us on the front seven."
