Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Junior goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 21 saves to earn his third consecutive shutout and freshman forward Krys Kolanos added two goals and two assists as Boston College blanked Providence, 8-0, before a crowd of 7,258 at Kelley Rink.
Clemmensen's shutout was his fourth of the season and the ninth of his career, setting a new Boston College record for career shutouts. He extended his string of scoreless minutes to 185:28, well within reach of his own NCAA record of 254:23, which he set in 1997-98.
Boston College (19-7-1, 11-6-1 HOCKEY EAST) took a 4-0 lead in the first period. Freshman forward Paul Kelly opened the scoring at 7:06 of the first period before junior forward Brian Gionta scored the first of his two goals at 11:04. Senior forward Jeff Farkas added a power-play goal at 15:59 and junior defenseman Rob Scuderi scored his first goal of the season 41 seconds later.
Gionta scored his 22nd goal of the season at 3:40 of the second period on the power play, and senior forward Blake Bellefeuille added his 12th goal of the year at 14:24. Two third-period goals by Kolanos closed out the scoring.
Bellefeuille and Farkas each had one goal and one assist for the Eagles, while juniors Mark McLennan and Mike Lephart added two assists each.
Providence (14-14-1, 6-11-0 HEA) got 24 stops from goaltender Nolan Schaefer in relief of starter Boyd Ballard, who was pulled at 15:59 of the first period after making seven saves.
Boston College returns to action on Monday, February 14 when it faces Boston University in the championship game of the 48th annual Beanpot at the FleetCenter.
