BOSTON, Mass. - Senior goaltender Scott Clemmensen recorded his 11th career shutout, extended his school record, as Boston College and Northeastern skated to a 0-0 tie before a crowd of 4,114 at NU's Matthews Arena.
Senior forward Mike Lephart had a chance to put the Eagles on the board early in the third period, but his shot hit the right post and Huskies goaltender Mike Gilhooly was able to recover to keep the game scoreless. Gilhooly turned away 28 Boston College shots on the night.
Clemmensen made 16 saves for the Eagles.
Boston College outshot Northeastern (5-6-3, 2-4-3) in each period. BC outshot NU 11-6 in the final period, and 2-0 in the overtime.
The game marked the first time that Boston College was involved in a 0-0 game since the Eagles battled Maine to a scoreless tie on Jan. 10, 1998. It was a then-freshman Clemmensen who was in goal for the Eagles in that game, which turned out to be his second career shutout.
The Eagles (11-3-1, 5-1-1) return to action on Sunday, Dec. 10, when they travel to Orono, Maine to take on the Black Bears in a HOCKEY EAST matchup. Game time is 7 p.m.
