ORONO, Maine - Boston College defeated the Maine Black Bears 7-2 in front of a crowd of 5,641 at Maine's Alfond Arena. Boston College started out strong, scoring two goals in the first 6:43. Freshman Tony Voce took a feed from classmate Joe Schuman at 2:28 to open the scoring, and senior Mark McLennan doubled the lead at 6:43, assisted by freshman Ty Hennes.
Boston College took a 3-0 lead 3:42 into the second period when junior Ales Dolinar tallied a power-play goal, but Maine would answer just 26 seconds later, when Black Bear's forward Kevin Clauson scored to cut the Eagles' lead to 3-1.
BC pulled away in the third period, scoring four goals in the span of 4:27, with Jeff Giuliano, Rob Scuderi, Ben Eaves and Chuck Kobasew registering goals.
Maine (6-6-4, 3-3-2) used three goaltenders during the game. Starting Black Bears goalie Mike Morrison lasted only 6:43, giving up two goals on seven shots. Trapper Clark and Matt Yeatts also made appearances in goal for Maine, making 18 saves between them.
Scott Clemmensen turned away 14 Maine shots for the victory.
The third-ranked Eagles (12-3-1, 6-1-1) return to action at the Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit, Mich. on Dec. 29-30. BC's first-round opponent is top-ranked Michigan State.
