
Hockey Wins Exhibition Opener, 6-2

CHESNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior forward Marty Hughes and freshman forward Ben Eaves each notched one goal and two assists to lead Boston College in a 6-2 exhibition win over Acadia University before a crowd of 1,883 at Kelley Rink.
BC senior captain Brian Gionta tallied three assists, while sophomore forward Krys Kolanos added one goal and one assist.
Boston College led 1-0 after one period and 4-0 after two periods. The Eagles extended their lead to 5-0 early in the final period, before Acadia scored its first goal at 14:43. The Axemen tallied another goal at 16:49, before BC closed the scoring at 18:51.
BC senior forward Mike Lephart scored the only goal of the opening period -- on the power play -- at 3:28. Kolanos doubled the Eagles' advantage at 3:08 of the second period. Freshman Ty Hennes scored at 6:39, and Hughes netted a power-play goal at 8:12 to give BC a four-goal margin entering the final period.
Boston College was 2-for-8 on the power play, while Acadia scored one man-advantage goal in 10 opportunities.
The Eagles used three goaltenders -- each for one period. Senior Scott Clemmensen made three saves in the first period, sophomore Tom Egan made five stops in the second period, and sophomore Tim Kelleher made five saves in the third period.
Acadia's Mark Cairns finished with 39 saves.
Boston College opens its regular-season schedule on Friday, October 13 against Notre Dame in the inaugural Maverick Stampede in Omaha, Neb.
