
Hockey Opens Season with 4-1 Win Over Notre Dame

OMAHA, Neb. Junior forward Jeff Giuliano scored two goals and freshman forward Ben Eaves added three assists to lead Boston College in a 4-1 win over Notre Dame in front of 8,314 fans at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in the first round of the inaugural Maverick Stampede in Omaha, Neb.
BC started the scoring as Giuliano won a battle in front of the net and tipped in a pass from Eaves at 17:47 of the first period. Sophomore Krys Kolanos added a power-play goal two-and-a-half minutes into the second period with senior captain Brian Gionta and Eaves assisting. Gionta tallied two assists on the night.
The Eagles added two more goals in the second period as junior center Ales Dolinar scored on a feed from Gionta and Rob Scuderi. Giuliano finished BC's scoring as he netted his second goal of the game on an assist from Eaves with five minutes left in the period.
Notre Dame notched its only goal of the game 43 seconds into the third period as Irish forward Ryan Dolder scored on an assist from freshmen defensemen Brett Lebda and Neil Komadoski.
Boston College outshot Notre Dame 35-26.
BC senior goaltender Scott Clemmensen stopped 25 of 26 Irish shots. Notre Dame's Tony Zasowski and Jeremiah Kimento teamed up to stop 31 Eagle shots.
Boston College advances to Saturday night's championship game against the host University of Nebraska-Omaha, 4-0 winners over Niagara on Friday night. Game time is set for 8 p.m. central time, 9 p.m. eastern.
