Dartmouth College used two goals in the first half to down the visiting Boston College men's soccer team, 2-1, at Chase Field. Senior Sjur Gundersen's first goal of the year on a penalty kick was the only dent on the scoreboard the Eagles could muster.
The Big Green opened the scoring in the 37th minute on Damien Quinn's blast from 20 yards out past Boston College keeper Chris Hamblin. Tom Billings added the insurance goal in the 43rd minute when he headed in a Quinn pass. Dartmouth held a 2-0 halftime lead marking only the second time this season the Eagles were behind at the half.
In the 77th minute, Gundersen was awarded a penalty kick - the Eagles' first of the year - and he made sure the Eagles were not shut out for a second-straight game. It was the only shot Dartmouth keeper Ben Gebre-Medhin allowed past him all day, as he stopped 11 Boston College shots on goal. Hamblin made six saves in the loss.
The Eagles attempted 14 shots and had seven corner kicks to Dartmouth's two, but could not manage to score again.
Boston College fell to 5-4 and suffered their third loss in four games. Dartmouth improved to 6-2.
The Eagles will next travel to Morgantown, W.Va., on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. Boston College will be looking for their fifth BIG EAST Conference win on the season.
