Boston College Game Quotes
Tom O'Brien, Head Coach
Overall
"Well we won, so we're three and one in October which was what our goal was-- to win the month of October. It sets up an opportunity for us to play for a winning season next week here at home. We're happy with the win and we'll go on from here."
On runningback William Green
"I think he keeps getting better. As long as he continues to get better and work the way he's working he might have the opportunity to be an exceptional back. He's pretty good right now but whether he's going to be a great one-- that will be up to him."
On the offensive line
"They did a pretty good job. We are not going to back off the football and that's what you have to do. Those backs go up in there. The running game is attrition. You wear them down and we were able to wear them down."
On the BC defensive effort
"We hurt ourselves early. Once we came off the field after that first series I think we did a pretty good job."
On the wind conditions with gusts up to 50 mph
"It was a tough day there with the wind. That's as windy as I think I've ever been around. The wind had a big impact on the football game, especially in the kicking game aspect. It was also tough to throw the football."
William Green, Runningback
"I know we needed to get this win for a bowl game."
"I feel like I get better every game especially playing with the offensive line I feel like I learn something every time I'm on the field. I'm just still going and still trying to learn."
"As the game went on I just felt like the reads were getting better, the offensive line was doing better, as the game went on I just felt like we were doing better."
"When I get my chances, I just want to go in there and do what I can do."
Terry Shea, head coach
On his team's performance
"We didn't play well enough to win a football game today. We fumbled around with dropped balls. We had a spurt of momentum in the first half, and were really excited at halftime, but the running game of Boston College did us in, both in the first and second halves. I believe the drive that opened up the second half took some of the spunk out of us, but we still had a chance to rally back and just could not respond offensively."
On Boston College
"Boston College certainly plays a physical brand of football, and they did a good job running against us. We defended the pass quite well, I thought, until the fourth quarter where the passing game began to slice us up a little bit. They were feeding off their running game and that's what transpired today."
"We came out today with a unique game plan. We took our 3-4 defense and transformed it into a 4-3 defense. We felt that we could force Boston College into different blocking angles and we'd have the element of surprise, not having shown the 4-3 very much this season. We didn't find the answers, though. We didn't make the plays on offense and we didn't tackle the ball-carrier when we had to on defense, and they broke free for some big chunks of yardage off of broken tackles."
Torrance Heggie, Jr. OLB On the BC running game
"They ran through the middle. They have big linemen and they took advantage all our small defensive linemen and ran the ball through the middle. It really didn't matter [what angle BC ran the ball]. If it was from the outside, I'd find myself chasing from behind sometime after they broke it up-field or coming back to the play."
On William Green
"He's alright, he's a good back. I wouldn't say that he's the best back that we've played against, but he's one of the best. He cuts well, and he's fast."
