Eagles scrimmage inside Alumni Stadium for first time during training camp
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The 2026 Boston College Football team held their first controlled scrimmage of the training camp season, as Saturday's practice was held inside Alumni Stadium.
"The defense did a good job. We were able to move the ball on offense. We got a lot of different guys reps … I think the guys competed well today," Gregory P. Barber '69 and Family Head Coach Bill O'Brien told the media after practice.
In addition to Coach O'Brien, defensive end Israel Oladipupo and wide receiver Johnathan Montague Jr. met with the media after day nine of practice.
After the defense limited the opposing offense on the opening drive of the game, it was running back Nolan Ray who broke Saturday's training camp session open with a 65-yard touchdown run.
Special teams played a big role in Saturday's practice, with both Bryce LaFollette and Andy Quinn getting quality punt reps. In addition, kickers Luca Lombardo and true freshman Jonathan Hewitt made a pair of 40+ yard field goals to go with a couple of extra points.
Quarterback Mason McKenzie continued to build on eight practices worth of work, hitting wide receiver Jaedn Skeete in stride across the middle of the field before a touchdown to tight end Brady Clough.
"Mason's doing a great job. He's a cool guy. He can do a lot with his arm and with his legs, and he can extend plays," Montague told the media.
In addition to running back Ray's long touchdown run earlier in the practice session, Mekhi Dodd broke off several runs for large gains.
The play of the day on the defensive side of the ball came from second-year safety Marcus Upton, who jumped in front of a pass and returned the ball for a touchdown. Later in practice, the defense held their own in stopping the offense getting the ball across the goal line.
"It was a great day for us to come out here and play in the stadium," Oladipupo said after practice. "We're playing hard. We're playing to the level Coach Roof wants us at."
The Eagles are off on Sunday before returning to the field on Monday for day 10 of training camp. Practices are closed to the public.
