Hockey Loses to Boston University, 2-1

BOSTON - Freshman forward John Sabo?s power-play goal at 17:25 of the third period snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted host Boston University to a 2-1 HOCKEY EAST victory over Boston College before a sellout crowd of 3,806 at Walter Brown Arena.
Boston University (12-6-3) trailed 1-0 entering the final period, but netted two power-play tallies to earn the win.
Senior forward Blake Bellefeuille opened the scoring at 1:04 of the second period, giving Boston College a 1-0 advantage. Seniors Jeff Farkas and Mike Mottau assisted on the goal.
BU?s Tommi Degerman tied the game at 1-1 at 10:45 of the third period.
BC freshman Tim Kelleher made 21 saves. BU freshman Rick DiPietro stopped 19 shots.
Boston College (11-6-1) returns to action on Friday, January 14 against UMass-Lowell. Game time is 7 p.m. in Kelley Rink.
Game Notes: Mottau?s assist was the 111th of his collegiate career, tying him with Tom Martin atop the school?s career assist-by-a-defenseman list. The assist also marked Mottau?s 135th career point, tying tied him with Tom Mellor as the school?s top scoring defensemen ? BC outshot BU in each of the first two periods ? 8-6 in the first, 10-4 in the second ? before the Terriers gained a 13-2 shot advantage in the third period ? The loss marked the Eagles? first defeat this season when entering the final period with the lead. BC was 8-0 when leading after two periods.
