Hockey Earns 4-4 Tie with Boston University

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. ? Junior forward Mike Lephart?s goal with 29 seconds remaining in regulation capped a furious Boston College rally from a 4-0 deficit as the host Eagles earned a 4-4 overtime tie with Boston University before a crowd of 7,770 at Kelley Rink.
Trailing by one goal in the closing minutes, BC head coach Jerry York pulled freshman goaltender Tim Kelleher with 1:20 remaining. With the extra skater, Lephart netted the rebound of junior Brian Gionta?s shot to even the score.
Boston University took a 4-0 lead on senior forward Chris Heron?s goal at 12:52 of the second period, before Boston College began its comeback. Freshman forward Paul Kelly got BC on the board at 16:53 of the second period.
Gionta netted back-to-back goals in the final period to set up Lephart?s tally. Gionta narrowed the BC deficit to 4-2 with a power-play goal at 12:07, then netted his 12th goal of the season at 18:05 to bring the Eagles to within one goal. Senior Mike Mottau and sophomore Ales Dolinar assisted on Gionta?s second goal.
BU took a 1-0 lead on freshman Brian Collins? goal at 9:55 of the first period. Junior Carl Corazzini doubled the Terriers? advantage at 2:34 of the second period, and junior Nick Gillis increased the margin to 3-0 at 5:13.
Kelleher, who relieved junior Scott Clemmensen in the BC net at 5:13 of the middle period, finished with 19 saves. Clemmensen made five stops.
BU freshman Rick DiPietro finished with 36 saves.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday, January 9. Game time is 7 p.m. in BU?s Walter Brown Arena. The game can be seen on Fox Sports New England.
