Men's Hoops Loses to Villanova, 67-59

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Malik Allen scored 15 points and Brian Lynch added 12 as Villanova held off Boston College 67-59 Saturday.
Gary Buchanan scored 11 points for Villanova (9-4, 1-1 Big East), which converted on 18 of 19 free throws.
Xavier Singletary added 14 points for the Eagles (9-6, 1-2). Troy Bell, who has been averaging 19.6 a game, tallied just 11 points, making just one of 12 from the field.
The Wildcats held a 49-39 lead with 10:27 left, but Jon Beerbohm sparked a 10-2 run and Boston College closed to 51-49 at the 5:57 mark.
A layup by Brooks Sales gave Villanova a 57-51 edge with 1:57 to go, and after Kenny Walls scored for the Eagles, Villanova hit eight-of-eight free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
Villanova trailed 23-21 with 4:17 to go in the first half, but then went on a 17-4 spurt capped by a steal and slam-dunk by Sales at the halftime buzzer to give the Wildcats a 38-27 advantage.
Villanova made 22 of 54 shots in the game for 40.7 percent, while Boston College made only 20 of 60 and had 17 turnovers.
