Notre Dame, Ind. - Despite a strong showing, Boston College dropped its second game of the 1999 campaign, falling to Notre Dame 1-0 in front of 850 in South Bend, Ind. Saturday night.
Junior goalkeeper Chris Hamblin (Bristol, England) stood tall for Boston College, stopping four Irish shots. Eagle newcomers Jorgen Lie (Kristiainund, Norway) and Casey Schmidt (Newbury Park, Cal.) each launched three shots towards the Notre Dame goal.
Schmidt, a highly-touted freshman and member of the US National Team's U-19 squad making his first collegiate start, nearly tied the game for Boston College with ten minutes remaining in regulation as his shot headed towards the Irish goal was booted out by Irish defender Andrew Aris.
Scoring for Notre Dame was freshman Erich Braun who tallied 21 minutes into the contest on assists from Rafael Garcia and Aris.
The Eagles (0-2-0 overall, 0-2-0 BIG EAST), will return to action Tuesday, Sep. 7 when they take on MAAC member Siena at 4 p.m. in a game to be played at Belmont Hill High School in Belmont, Mass.
