CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Sophomore Gregory Strohmann scored two goals in the final five minutes of play to seal the win for 19th-ranked Seton Hall against Boston College in men's soccer action. His first goal at 85:53 gave the Pirates a 2-0 edge. Freshman goaltender Efren Aguirre earned his first career shut out by making four saves. The win raised Seton Hall's record to 6-1 and 3-0 in the BIG EAST. The loss leveled the Eagles to 3-3 and 1-3 in the BIG EAST.
Seton Hall scored their first goal at 34:35 on kick by Peter Scavo. Brian Cuddy centered the ball off the left wing to Scavo, who converted the pass into the far corner of the net.
At 46:00, freshman Casey Schmidt (Newbury Park, Calif.) had a wide open scoring opportunity for the Eagles, but the shot veered just left of the net. Boston College again had an opportunity late in the second half when a shot by junior Jorgen Lie (Kristiainund, Norway) went on net, but was deflected at the last minute by a defender and stopped by Aguirre.
Strohmann's second goal at 87:31 was scored on a pass off the right wing from Phil Swenda. The goal was his sixth of the season.
Junior John O'Halloran (Waltham, MA) made his first career start in goal for the Eagles and made three saves in the loss. He replaced junior Chris Hamblin (Bristol, England) who was sitting out the game on a red card penalty suspension.
