CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College football coach Tom O'Brien announced Tuesday that he has appointed Frank Spaziani as defensive coordinator and hired Dana Bible as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks/wide receivers coach and David Magazu as offensive line coach.
Spaziani served as O'Brien's running backs coach for the past two seasons. He joined the BC staff after three seasons (1994-96) as the defensive coordinator for the Calgary Stampeders. He also spent nine years as a member of the Virginia coaching staff, where he was defensive coordinator for his last five seasons in Charlottesville, after having been defensive backs coach for the first four. He is a 1969 graduate of Penn State, where he was a star defensive end. He began his coaching career in 1969 as a graduate assistant to Joe Paterno.
"I'm excited to get back on the defensive side of the ball," Spaziani says, "especially because of the talent we have at defense. I look forward to working with a great group of young men."
Bible comes to BC after a year as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. He also served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Stanford University (1995-97) the University of Cincinnati (1994) and San Diego State University (1986-89); as quarterbacks coach for the Cincinnati Bengals (1990-93); and in various capacities at Miami University and North Carolina State University. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati.
"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to coach at Boston College," Bible says. "With the great tradition of BC football, combined with an excellent group of young players recruited by Tom O'Brien and his staff, I think this program has a very bright future. I can't wait to be a part of it."
Magazu comes to BC from the University of Memphis, where he has served as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was offensive line coach at the University of Kentucky (1995-96) and Colorado State University (1992-94); offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Indiana State University (1990-91); offensive line coach at the U.S. Naval Academy (1987-89), and served in various capacities at Ball State University, Northern Illinois University, the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. The Taunton native is a graduate of Springfield College.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come home," Magazu says. "I spent many years in New England and have great friends and contacts there. I always have had a tremendous amount of respect for Boston College. I am excited to come back and be a part of a great program."
