Softball Sweeps Fairfield

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.--Junior Gretchen Thompson(Brea, CA) threw out the potential tying run from centerfield in the top of the seventh to preserve the Eagles 2-1 victory over Fairfield in the first of two games on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Mary Dietz(San Manuel, AZ) had a no-hitter through six innnings, until she gave up four hits and a run in the top of the seventh.Dietz has now won four in a row improving her record to 8-6. Dietz struck out 13, upping her season total to 165.
Junior Cristin Brown knocked in BC's only two runs in the bottom of the third.
In game two freshman Brooke Shull(San Diego, CA) pitched a complete game shutout over the Stags to give the Eagles their eight win in a row and 22nd overall.
The Eagles smacked 12 hits off of Fairfield, led Brown and senior Jen Murray, each with three hits apiece.
With the sweep of the Stags, head coach Jen Finley picked up her 200th career win and improves her career record to 200-101-1 in six years as a head coach.
Boston College will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday when they host BIG EAST rival Connecticut. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
